Top of the morning on this #TaperTuesdays! Check out Kind Hearted Strangers throwing it down for St. Patrick’s Day at Oskar Blues Black Buzzard!
What better vibe do you need for a Saturday St. Patrick’s Day in Denver at the Oskar Blues Black Buzzard than one of Boulder’s best folk-rock offerings, the Kind Hearted Strangers! The band has evolved plenty since the last time I saw them opening things up for Flash Mountain Flood at The Fox last July. With the inclusion of a bassist and a full drum set, the songs have a new energy that allows everyone more space to impact the music. The added balance allows guitarist Kevin Hinder more room to really go-off on his solos which help peak these songs in big ways and frees up front-man Marc Townes to wail just a bit harder on rhythm and vocals. The band sounded tight and polished throughout the set especially during “Go Long” which featured fantastic guitar interplay and well executed vocal harmonies. Good cover selection and integration as well. The Bob Dylan penned “Tonight I’ll Be Staying Here With You” and The Beatles’ “Don’t Let Me Down” were both delivered with a bit of KHS flair without straying too much from the original structure and gave the drunken crowd something to sing-a-long to. A great set of music is the best way to spend St. Patrick’s Day!
