Come on get up – its #TaperTuesday and I got some #FreeMusic for you from The Hip Abduction opening things up at Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre!
Under a beautiful bluebird Colorado sky, The Hip Abduction kicked off what would be an epic night of music at the legendary Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre. This was my first time seeing the band but from the opening “Star Wars” theme teases (a nod to the somewhat official holiday May 4th) I was a fan. Their tunes are an amalgam of reggae-rock and 80’s synth power-pop which is extremely conducive to beautiful weather and as a result, we were all in luck. Strong melodies and very rhythmic song structures, as in “Before We Lose Our Mind” and “Come Alive” kept the crowd dancing and engaged as their horn section added another layer to their well shaped soundscape. It’s not shocking the band is from Florida, you can almost feel the weather coming through their music. Their twist on the Red Hot Chili Peppers tune “Snow (Hey Oh)” was made very much their own and very naturally segued into the MGMT classic “Kids” which also fit-in with their sound perfectly. Very strong set to open a beautiful day at one of the best venues in the world.

Also thank you to Dylan Coyle who helped lock down the spot for the entire night. This was my first time ever taping Red Rocks and this in particular my first set I ever taped there. He helped alleviate a ton of stress I had about locking down the spot. This recording wouldn’t have happened without his help!
