DeadPhish Orchestra | 2017-11-19 | Be On Key Psychedelic Ripple, Denver, CO [AUD]

How many of you are just a few hours from a nice little vacation? How about some #freemusic to take you on home courtesy of DeadPhish Orchestra!

This was a matinee set scheduled for 4:20pm at Be On Key Psychedelic Ripple – after the weekend of Disco Biscuits and disco biscuit late-nights, a show that ended before 9pm was right up my alley. The band opened with a improvisational segment which segued into “Eyes Of The World”. The crowd welcomed the classic dead tune, as the all-ages event garnered more of a family crowd than I’ve ever seen at the bar. Kids left and right were dancing alongside hippies of all ages. The “Mike’s Song > Sugaree > The Mango Song > The Other One > Weekpaug Groove” segment showed-off the band doing what they do best; weaving both Phish and Grateful Dead songs seamlessly into each other. The song selection loaned itself well to the transitions. Right when I expected “I Am Hydrogen” I was pleasantly reminded where I was with the starting notes of “Sugaree”. The second set had the jam segment of the evening in Phish’s “Stash” which explored the most territory out of any song that evening. The set closing “Slave To The Traffic Light” closed out the set in a very appropriate fashion and in parellel to the moving “Morning Dew”. Both bands were evenly represented in spirited performances that captivated the Sunday matinee crowd.
