I’m just here trying to make you love Mondays, one #MusicMonday at a time. Today is special, let’s check out some phunky #FreeMusic from Phour Point O!

Why is this so special you ask? Well, first of all, every #MusicMonday is special so stop sassing me. But secondly, this is my first Soundboard matrix from Be On Key Psychedelic Ripple which has been almost a year in the making! My first matrix at my favorite venue in Denver had to be special and thankfully the boys in Phour Point O were up for the challenge; laying down two of the best sets I’ve ever seen them play. A new element to the sound was Braxton Kahn on loan from The Workshy. His drumming added a whole new element of syncopated dynamics to the music, often times leading jams into new and interesting directions through clever tempo shifts and fluid communication. Listen to “Possum” or the epic “Mike’s Song” and see exactly what I’m talking about. With the exception of a spontaneous “Lawn Boy” prompted by a broken Mike Pedersen string, and the *finally* nailed version of “Horn”, pretty much every song takes a journey (even if slight) into purposeful improv territory. Don’t sleep on the monster “Tweezer”, the equally monstrous “Prince Caspian”, the epic voyage that is “Mike’s Song” or the second set opener “Birds Of A Feather” which was generously dedicated to yours truly 🙂. Definitely also check out this rendition of the Stones’ classic “Loving Cup” which features some nice playing from Nathaniel Rateliff’s saxophonist Jeff Dazey. [1] Mike broke a string at the end of “Harry Hood”. While he changed the string it led to an impromptu version of “Lawn Boy”.
[2] “Loving Cup” featured Jeff Dazey (Nathaniel Ratcliff) on saxophone.
