A Mungion a day keeps nothing away because everyone wants more Mungion – Check out their set from this year’s Beanstalk Music Festival!

After a last-minute set-change, Mungion was moved from playing Friday to Saturday. Lucky for us, the band soaked in the Rancho Del Rio vibe and spent the day hanging out. As well rested as one can be at a music festival, the band then treated the crowd on the final day of the festival to an upbeat dance party of a set. Opening things up, the band kicked into the funk-prog tune “Chatterbox” which showed off the band’s multifaceted attack with the tunes funky intro to its much proggier verses and hard rock chorus to its lounge-esque break…the song had it all without seeming cluttered. Each segment flowed into the next organically without missing a step. It segued into the salsa tinged “Quemaste Tu Cabella” which translates to “You burned your female horse”. The tune was a ground stomper with its sanguine melody and soaring keys / guitar interplay. Next up was a stellar cover of Jimmy Herring’s “Justice” that took the tune on a slightly faster ride compared to it’s studio original, which I thought was a welcome take. The band then slowed the pace a bit with the whirling opening notes of “Born From A Compass”. I really dug this tune, from the opening riff to the melancholic hook “…and that’s just fine”. A verse with a hook greater than the chorus always hits me the right way. The tune also helped pace the set well. The band then launched into “Truckalove” – a light-hearted bluegrass tune that proved another solid change of pace for the set and a good gateway into the fan-favorite “Hung Daddy”. The tune was the funkiest of the set and how could it not be? The name alone demands attention and even featured a brief Axl Rose impression. The set closed out with an epic “Beneath The Shallows” which super locked-in playing and a stellar outro jam which had a patient and exclamatory build that served as the perfect ending to the set. Mungion definitely left their mark on bean world.
