The Jauntee | 2017-11-04 | Declaration Brewing Company, Denver, CO [AUD]

While this week is chugging along, why not enjoy some free music?! Round 3 of the The Jauntee coming at ya!

Once again we return to whence we came, the set at Declaration Brewing was another #Jauntgrass set which featured The Jauntee’s take on bluegrass. The set opened with a fun 1-2 punch in the form of a unique take on Phish’s ode to not-overthinking, “Bug”. It was followed-up by the lesser-known Cake tune “Stick Shifts and Safety Belts” which loaned itself well to it’s bluegrass adaptation. Original tune “Yopper” seemed right at home with its bluegrass interpretation and campy-catchy chorus and swift rhythm. It eventually segued into the Grisman/Garcia instrumental “Dawgz Waltz” which showed off the band’s technical prowess and good taste in classic string music. The set featured a pretty eclectic range of covers, between Phish, Grisman/Garcia, Cake, Fugazi, Neil You and The Beatles, you’d be hard pressed to find something that doesn’t appeal to you. Each cover manages to keep the soul that makes the song great but also always manages to inject the band’s own style and charm breathing new air into these classics. The set even managed to have a massive jam in the form of “Nothing To Lose” which was a complex piece with many movements and tempo changes. The band moved as a single unit, deconstructing and rebuilding the jam several times before eventually fading into “Fading Time”. The 2 hour set was the perfect way to cap the last three days of Jauntee epic-ness. Day-drinking in Denver at a Brewery with over 20 beers on tap to the sounds of a unique Jauntee bluegrass set is about as good a way to spend a day as anyone can say!
