With our hearts, our heads, our hands and feet…we recorded this The Sweet Lillies set at Beanstalk Music Festival!
The Sweet Lillies kicked off the second day of Beanstalk Festival with their brand of bluegrass, spanning the gamut of the genre from soulful originals to party covers and making for an enthralling live show full of stellar picking, scraping, kazooing, and whatever it is you do to a viola (bowing?).
The set was filled with highlights. Fans of the band were treated to some deeper cuts early in the set, such as “Grey Wood” and “Hands Of Greed”; new fans were treated to the band’s endearing ability to tribute the 90s with covers of Montel Jordan’s ode to partying, “This Is How We Do It”, TLC’s cautionary “Waterfalls” (which featured Magic Beans drummer Cody Wales), and the forever clever mash-up of “Intergalactic Planetary” with Erykah Badu’s “My Life”. They also performed a cover of “Ragdoll” in tribute to their recently departed friend Jeff Austin. The song was a staple of their live repertoire for the last few years and took on a new meaning after his recent death. It was a fitting tribute of a beautiful song. In addition, the Lillies have a penchant for melodiously soulful songwriting, songs like the infectiously catchy “Weeping Willow”, the introspective “Shadows” or the ominous “Shaman”, all exemplify the band’s ability to craft a song that is as accessible as it is genuine.
The Sweet Lillies live show marks the best points of seeing live music. Sweet originals, fun covers and impeccable musicianship. It’s a combination that transcends genre and will always be the right choice to start your day or festival.
