If you ever find yourself in the Denver Highlands on a Friday night looking for some music that won’t break your bank, you’re in luck! Friday nights are dubbed “Fusion Fridays” and feature Quite Frankly, a local Denver music scene super-group featuring Kirk Larson (Kessel Run) on drums, Tucker McClung (Cycles) on bass, and Aidan Pagnani (Aidan Pagnani Band) on guitar. The band performs their own instrumental interpretations of a wide variety of cover tunes, spanning genres from jazz and funk to grunge, hip hop, and psychedelia. Jazz funk standards, like Roy Hargrove’s “Strasbourgh-St. Denis” and The Meters’ “Live Wire”, seem to fit effortlessly alongside more eclectic choices like their take on Poolside’s interpretation of Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon”, their beefed-up take on Nirvana’s “All Apologies”, which featured the biggest jam of the evening, or even their funked up version of “Return Of The Mack”, which stayed just as smooth as the original. The band had cultivated a solid crowd by the end of the second set, but unbeknownst to them, the night would be prematurely cut short due to a power outage. Earlier in the evening, a car hit a power line, so the bar had been running on a back-up generator, which unfortunately failed. After the second set, the power cut out and remained out for the rest of the evening. Fans weren’t deterred however and remained, waiting in hope that the power may return. The band treated patrons to a drum jam, which evolved into a full crowd participation “Tequila”. While it ended the night early, the acapella “Tequila” was a memorable moment patrons won’t soon forget.
Quite Frankly knows how to curate the soundtrack for your Friday night. The perfect blend of classic and contemporary styles, all through the instrumental lens held by some of Denver’s best local musicians. Quite frankly, you can’t go wrong on any given #FusionFriday.

Show Notes: This was week #15 of the band’s weekly “Fusion Fridays” residency at Zio Romolo’s Alley Bar. The entire second set and “Tequila” featured Bob Turner on tenor saxophone. Earlier in the evening, a car struck a power line causing the bar to run on a back-up generator, which was failing. During the second set break, the power went out and would not return, ending the show prematurely. The “Blackout Set” was performed without any amplification and in darkness.
Taper Notes: CA14 omnis were setup DFC on-stage – DIN configuration – in front of the drum set. AKGs were setup stage-left, raised around 6′ PAS. The soundboard was “vocals only” AUX stereo send TRS out > XLR in.
