Is this a life worth living in? It sure is – we got a recording of DIZGO live at Beanstalk Music Festival!

On the final day of Beanstalk, there was a brief reprieve from the onslaught of rain, as the heavens seemed to take a break to enjoy some music, as Indiana based trio DIZGO provided the soundtrack to one of the solemn sets of sunshine.

The band started with an instrumental titled “Slappy Second” a likely nod to the funky bass slaps that permeated throughout the number. The song showed off the band’s stellar tone and tight playing, getting themselves into a solid groove to start their Beanstalk Main Stage debut set, and then segueing into the classic beach staple instrumental “Wipeout” by the Safaris. The band then stretched out their jamtronica legs as they kicked into their original “Never On Time”. Once again the band quickly locked into a powerful jam that would be the most exploratory of their set. The jam may been just a little bit too powerful though as the band briefly lost power midway through, however were able to quickly recover thanks to the fantastic stage crew at Beanstalk and some steadfast drumming. Next up the band performed another original “Help Is On The Way”, a ferociously melodic tune that highlights the band’s ability to write accessibly while still holding on to their technical roots.

Next up the band performed the centerpiece of their set, a five-song journey that spanned genres, starting with the funky synth-laden “On The Groove” which segued into the reggae-dub inspired “Botswana” which then flowed into the electronic grooves of “Morning Shadows”. The voyage was still not over, as the band then transitioned into the funk rock of “Pick It Up Again” which featured the most extensive jam of the multi-song segment, complete with drum solo outro that brought us to the final song of the pairing, the fast paced “Ride!”, which was a musical amalgam in and of itself, seemingly blending elements of jamtronica, rock, and even ska and contained the second biggest jam of the set. The band then closed out their set with a emphatic take on the Beatles’ classic “Dear Prudence”, potentially giving another nod to the weather and their fortune, since “the sun is up”.

DIZGO has one of the most operative names of any jamband. A dizzier disco – filled with a hodge-podge of genres, styles, and technical influences, but still, at it’s core, a dance party.
