Cheshire Cat Moon is smiling down on you tonight with a recording of Dylan Kishner Band at Cervantes Other Side!

Kicking off a night that would go late with music was the Dylan Kishner Band, performing some fresh takes from their upcoming EP, as well as some more fan-favorite originals.

Things started with a smooth jam that coalesced with a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Alligator”. Featured on each of their songs was two-thirds of The Mercenary Horns, Matt Wilkolak on trumpet and Mark Wilkolak on trombone, accompanied also by Nick Dalessandro on saxophone. The horns nuanced each number with their punchy attack and were a welcome addition to the set. After the opener, the band was dedicated to all originals for the remainder of the set, starting off with a tune called “Cheshire Cat Moon”, which will appear on an upcoming EP that will be released at the end of April. The tune featured a spacey interlude that provided some space for the band to continue the jam ideas from the beginning of the set, before developing into a frantic build that peaked and then slid back into the final verse.

Next up, the band sandwiched their tune “Colorado” with an instrumental titled “All Aboard” — the transition hit like a punch to the jaw, as the galloping intro riff to “Colorado” roared through the transition with a raucous determination. On the studio version, the riff is played on an acoustic, but this version fit the rocking nature of the transition. After introducing the band, they performed a laid-back ballad, titled “Cassini”, which is a tune with a dream-like flow and a particularly catchy hook. The set then closed with a tune about whiskey, titled “God Bless”, ending things on an upbeat and celebratory note.

The Dylan Kishner Band provided a rousing set of original tunes to butter up the early fans ready to let loose on their Saturday night. The set, while compact, was to the point and delivered on providing a reason to drink and dance and sing, “God bless the Dylan Kishner Band”.
