!!!Incoming Flash Flood Warning!!!
Retreat to a dry space and throw on some #FreeMusic from Flash Mountain Flood opening things up at Be On Key Psychedelic Ripple!
I think it was either the great poet T.S. Elliot or possibly Jack Black in the movie School Of Rock who said “One great rock show can change the world” – I am a big believer in that. But sometimes a second doesn’t hurt either. Here is another set from Flash Mountain Flood, this time a bit longer and a bit deeper! To start things off, the band ripped through The Meters’ classic “Hey Pocky Way” which was coincidentally the last song I had seen them play when we saw them a few days earlier at Moe’s Original BBQ Englewood. This version however had a little more swing to it and how could it not with the always fantastic Kevin Supina of Envy Alo sitting in on saxophone. Kevin’s playing added a refined tone to the improv segment and really brought new energy to the tune that elevated it from the previous version I’d seen. Next up was the original “Dreamin'” which Kevin Supina also sat-in during, once again adding a new depth of personality to the song without overstepping. After that came “White Lightning” which has become the song that defines Flash Mountain Flood for me. Within this weekend, this song alone has brought two monster jams that I absolutely loved. The way the band communicates during the jam is memorizing and organic. Both the Moe’s version and this version are absolutely must-hears; I’ve personally been spinning both all weekend. More solid jamming towards the end of the set in “Any Place” and some more welcome saxophone work from Kevin Supina during “Speak Of Heaven”. The set closed out with a solid version of “The Weight” that was a clear crowd pleaser and featured some fiery guitar work in the outro solo. Every time I see Flash Mountain Flood I become an even bigger fan and this set was no different. Pumped to know they’ll be at Beanstalk Music Festival this summer which is just around the corner…Just another reason to be excited for the best festival of the summer!
