Whoaaaa fire keeps a glow…whoaaa turn up the radio, it’s playing Kaleid at Lost Lake!

I’m not sure what you would call a group of Kaleid fans…Scopers? Kaleidians? Funkle Rockers? Well, whatever it may be, I imagine there must be a new set of them after the band put on a powerful set of new tunes, new covers, new jams, and nod to a fan-favorite, all in support of Consider The Source at Colfax’s Lost Lake.

The band put on a fearless set, debuting not one but three new songs. The first new tune, “Radio”, had a rock-funk groove which eventually morphed into the most riveting jam of the set. It also contained a debut cover of the instrumental overture, “Back To The Future”, a welcome tune to anyone who grew up with what I consider one of the best trilogies of all time and, in turn, one of cinema’s most iconic musical pieces. The jam continued after the composed parts of the theme and led into another new tune, titled “Lullaby”. The song was an upbeat marriage of jamtronica and metal riffs, in contrast to the title, but all executed with a fierce determination and focus. After a minute to catch their breath, the band performed their third debut of the evening, the campy “Lemons”, which is another melodious tune that blends a borderline punk rock cadence, resolving into a more indie pop chorus. The tune included funny banter from the band and seems to have instantly found its space as a fun inclusion into the live rotation. Not satisfied with just one homage to the legendary trilogy, the band segued back into the “Back To The Future” theme before crashing into the main riff of fan-favorite, “Miss March”. The band closed out the segment with a cathartic final chorus to one of their most accessible numbers, to the delight of their fans in attendance. After their most accessible moment, the band got down to the nitty-gritty, closing out their time with an improv jam that further illustrated what the band has to offer as one of Denver’s most impressive crafters of technically proficient compositions and hard-hitting peak-intensive jams.

Kaleid was on fire during their set at Lost Lake. Their new tunes were executed so effectively you would have thought they were part of the repertoire for years, and their ability to craft a jam is as compelling as it is dancebale. The band has made exponential growth over the past few years, and if this set is any indicator of the future, they’re just getting started.
