Want some music? Have some music! Check out my pull from MLIMA‘s set at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom(The Other Side)!

The set opened with original slow funk tune “Planet Borscht” easing the Friday night crowd into an entrancing groove. As lead vocalist Jessica Jones began to sing, it was clear MLIMA was a force to be reckoned with. The following number “Sunshine” was a more upbeat funk song the chorus of which featured more of Jessica’s incredible vocal range soaring over a pair of well accenting horns. If the first tune eased us in and the second one heated things up, the third brought everything to a boil as they brought both Ben Rafferty from The Workshy and Jessica Holloway from Jubolingo on to contribute their keyboard mastery. I was already familiar with Ben’s prowess being a big Workshy fan but I had never heard Jubolingo before that night and I was insanely impressed both with her vocal ability and her incredible talent on the keys. These two joined MLIMA for a monster cover of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” (in 6/8 time no less) which put a new spin on the classic. “You Know I’m No Good” was another perfectly executed cover which featured Jessica Jones doing a spot-on Amy Whinehouse impersonation. “Space Hop” was a fun carnival of space funk synth tones followed up by “Kosher Dumping” which featured Zachary David Simms playing two saxophones at the same time- now imagine that dressed as Duff Man. One of my personal highlights was their take on Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” which featured roaring vocals and crunchy guitars. MLIMA was a party and a half, mixing all the right musical elements for a raging party. Got another soundboard patch for this one so once again the quality is superb. Thanks to Shrink for the patch!
