Hi! How are you?! I would like a recording of Mom And Dad headlining Larimer Lounge!! WHY?! BECAUSE I DO!!!!!
Denver’s favorite spin on stoner-rock headlined Larimer Lounge last Thursday to celebrate the release of their newest album, titled ’21st Century Blues’. The set featured eight tracks off the new album, many of which have become staples of the band’s new live repertoire, as well as some older tunes dating back to the band’s inception, like the farcically titled “I Had A Balloon And You Popped It So Fuck You”. New songs like the spastic “Video Games”, the carnival-esque “Give It A Rest”, and the title track “21st Century Blues” illustrate the band’s ironic and sometimes comically nihilistic viewpoints, delivered in a bouquet of aggressive riffs, sarcastic vocal delivery, and dynamic melodies, all of which toe the line between stoner-rock and more progressive sensibilities. One of the band’s great talents is shifting their dynamics from in-your-face, high-tempo, riffed-out instrumentals, such as “Only Happens Once”; to the surreal ethereal tone of a song like “To Go”, with its dreamlike verses and fierce chorus; to the stoner-tonk swagger of “Out Boy”; or even the slight synth tones in the instrumental “Caffeine”. The band consistently finds new ways to deliver their one-of-a-kind sound without compromising the elements that make the band unique.
Mom & Dad is a whirlwind of rock tropes delivered with a hint of cynicism and a whole lot of character. They make hard rock music for the music fan, and make mischievous rock hard to hate. Congrats to them on their new album release!
