You didn’t think I’d forget about #MusicMonday did you? Check out my pull from MONTU opening things up at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom!

MONTU gave the Saturday night crowd plenty to dance about. Their blend of jamtronica was heavy on synths and incredibly catchy guitar riffs which would constantly build and break into soaring peak-filled solos that drew fist pumps and hippie shuffles galore. Their tease selection constantly kept me smiling, from their well executed version of the original “Mario Brothers Theme”, complete with coins dings, to the brief Donna Summer “Bad Girls” jam and especially their full-blown Michael Jackson cover; all I could think about was how much fun this band was. One of my favorite songs of theirs was “Bota” which had a great build and a super catchy riff that will definitely be in the back of my mind all week. Luckily, it can be in the forefront of your mind in crispy soundboard/audience matrix goodness thanks to Cervs sound guy Corey who hooked up the board patch. Thanks again! Hope to see MONTU again soon – really great set!

Show Notes: Montu opened the show followed by Skydyed. Perpetual Groove was the headliner.

Taper Notes: DFC FOB PAS mics raised around 12′. The vocal mic wasn’t coming through the PA until the very end but this only affects banter in between songs which is minimal.
