It’s #TaperTuesday and I got some grass of the blue variety for you…check out Steamboat Bandits opening things up at Be On Key Psychedelic Ripple!
Steamboat Bandits played a blistering almost 2 hour set to open things up at Be On Key Psychedelic Ripple for the second night of the RAQ+ residency. The band played a great mix of powerful originals and bluegrass covers both traditional and unique. Very strong vocals and speedy picking – all ingredients to a great bluegrass band. I was impressed with the bluesier tunes they did like BB King classic “Thrill Is Gone” or the Clapton tune “No One Knows You When You’re Down And Out”. All the pickers were fantastic as well from their speedy banjo player to their equally quick mandolin player and everyone on stage in-between, the band had a knack for taking solos which is always welcome. The two instrumental tunes show off one of the often overlooked aspects of a great bluegrass band, tone. The band had beautiful tone and intonation which I think really shines in the recording. Great way to start off the evening – the band talked about moving to Denver, if they did, I would say it would be great way to end the evening as well!
