Did anyone order a helping of melted face? How about shredded guitar? Check out Eminence Ensemble at Beanstalk Music Festival!

Rock was alive and well at Rancho Del Rio on the first full day of Beanstalk 2018 as Eminence Ensemble brought their dual-guitar riff factory to kick up some dust. The band’s set opener “Cowboy Jordan” was a classic rock epic with heavy riffs and powerful soaring vocals. The intertwining guitar work constantly adds new dimensions to the leads and help organically grow each moment by bridging those parts together. The next tune “Mousehunt” was a bit funkier but still held onto the metal tone, presenting more of a prog-metal vibe. The following tune “Swimsuit” was a more soulful and R&B inspired jaunt showing shades of the band’s versatile songwriting. Up next was another classic rock inspired tune called “The Road” which was well written and contained something I’m always a fan of…a chorus with a punchline, “The Road only lets us go 65”. After an extremely apropos cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Ramble On” which featured another masters class on shredding, the band performed a dark synth-laden tune called “Techno Pho”. It featured patient builds and, true to the namesake, a strong techno element. Sometimes reminiscent of band’s such as Umphrey’s McGee, I always like to describe this sound as “Rainbow Road Rock”. It always reminds me of playing one of the many epic Mario Kart tracks and the futuristic music that always accompanied each course. Through several peaks and valleys the song eventually landed and the band had one more tune left, my personal favorite, “My Personal Hell”. The tune has a ska element while still retaining the band’s prog-metal sensibility which ultimately gives it a very unique tone and enveloped the song. I also thoroughly enjoyed the chorus which has a very catchy hook that stuck in my head for the rest of the afternoon. Eminence Ensemble threw down a super polished set filled with peaking guitar solos, strong vocals and great songwriting. It was nice to finally tape the band as they were on a very short list of Denver staples that I hadn’t gotten a recording ofyet. Glad I was finally able to experience it. Enjoy!
