Who loves #FreeMusicFriday? It’s pretty hard not to after listening to the first night and debut performance of the super-group SuperNatural Beings a Be On Key Psychedelic Ripple!

Consisting of Joel Cummins (Umphrey’s McGee) on keys, Kris Myers (Umphrey’s McGee) on drums, Marcus Rezak (Shred Is Dead) and Hash Vyas (Thievery Corporation) and playing nothing but improvised music, SuperNatural Beings lit up the packed Be On Key crowd for their first ever live performance, engaging the crowd with two sets of fully improvised music. Each member is a master jamsmith hailing from a wide spectrum of musical backgrounds and each brought something unique to every musical venture they embarked upon. Their jams were played with purpose and an often times fierce attack that showed a band with a commanding grasp of their sound and the room. The intimacy of Be On Key added reverence to the artists performing who have graced some of Denver’s most iconic stages from Red Rocks to The Fillmore. To see this group performing this type of music in such a small venue was truly something special. From the first set opening 25+ minute segment to the final almost half hour send-off, there wasn’t a single moment that felt forced or bogged by idle playing. A truly fantastic night of music. Kudos to Jay Bianchi for always booking such awesome acts and in such a kind setting.
