Let this be an Appreciation Thread for TAUK throwing it down at Beanstalk Music Festival!

It felt like the deck was stacked on the second night of the festival, as TAUK closed out the Main Stage after stellar sets from both Aqueous and Magic Beans. The prog-rock group from Oyster Bay pulled no punches, unleashing an hour and a half of tight playing and a set list that spanned their wide repertoire.

The set opened with the rumbling riffs of “In The Basement Of The Alamo”, a rallying cry to remind fans that the night was far from over. TAUK‘s rhythmic instrumentation proved a compelling motivator to keep dancing as guitarist Matt Jalbert never seemed to run out of licks, keys player AC Carter guided moments with a consistent infusion of electronic wails, all while drummer Isaac Teel and bassist Charlie Dolan provided an unwavering back bone to each tune. The result was a set filled with highlight moments, including a sit-in from Yak Attack keys master Dave Dernovsek, and Will Trask from Analog Son on back-up percussion during “Cocoa Butter”. Their execution was flawless, performing their songs with an impressive tightness that almost eclipsed their melodic compositions. From start to finish, it seems TAUK never plays a wrong note, which is impressive especially considering the complexity of the majority of their originals.

TAUK finds the often elusive middle ground between stirring instrumentation that is technically compelling while remaining both danceable and inspiring. They control the dynamics of their set masterfully, from the most laid-back grooves to the shreddiest outros; the band performs with a confident swagger that they back-up with every note. As one may say, “they talk the talk and walk the walk”.
