I love you all like cookies and cream but I also love The New Mastersounds headlining the final night of Central City Jazz Fest!

For the final set of this year’s Central City Jazz Fest Main Stage, The New Mastersounds brought their blend of fiery jazz fusion to combat the cold mountain air that began to envelope the Teller Lot. The New Mastersounds are on the verge of releasing a new record titled “Shake It”, which will be released by Color Red, the label owned and operated by frontman Eddie Roberts. The record features several songs with vocalist Llamar Williams Jr., son of Allman Brother’s bassist Llamar Wiliams. Fittingly, the band performed several takes off of that record, including the first single (and title track) “Shake It”, the most recent single “Let’s Go Back”, the soulful “Fairchild”, and the funky “Kings & Queens” to name a few. Llamar’s vocal talent blends seamlessly with The New Mastersounds’ refined spectrum of jazz funk and gives an added punch to their overall sound. In addition, it was equally fitting that the band covered Allman Brothers classic “Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More”, the first track off the quintessential southern rock record “Eat A Peach”.

The New Mastersounds performed masterfully in their role as festival headliner, crafting a set list that engaged the eclectic audience from all over the Front Range who made the trek out to Central City to enjoy the weekend of music. Their new songs with Llamar Williams Jr. were an enlightening and refreshing take on their existing sound, and it shows why they’ve been so successful for the past 15 years. Definitely check out their new record when it comes out on Color Red in September.
