It’s not 4:44 but it’s #TaperTuesday and I got some #FreeMusic from Part & Parcel!

Starting things off on the third and final day of this year’s incredible Beanstalk Music Festival, Part & Parcel eased everyone into the mountain-top morning with their original tune “4:44”, a revelatory and optimistic tune about appreciation. Certainly an appropriate choice for a crowd facing the final day of an incredible weekend. Next up was the melancholy “Lost & Found” which picked up the tempo a bit and got the crowd kicking up the Rancho Del Rio dust. The band then performed a newer song called “The Port of Porter”, a forceful tune with the swagger of a drinking song but the soul of an old Irish ballad. It showcases one of my favorite parts of their songwriting; their ability to write bluegrass songs with multiple segments, stringing together various tempo changes and dynamic shifts. This is further exhibited in “Fall From Your Feet”, another original with a spirited attack yet fervent lyrical twist and shows the band’s ability to move as a unit through soft and peak moments. The band then launched into one of their live staples “On Your Way Down”, the Little Feat cover that reveals the bands ability to improvise and add a little bit of a psychedelic angle to their sound. “Happy Hour” & “White House Road” further propelled these sentiments, especially the latter which was a raspy rocker that never let up for a second. Songs about drinking and doing cocaine are what bluegrass is all about. Keeping with the traditional bluegrass vibe, the band performed “Wayfarin’ Stranger” which is a folk standard from the 19th century that has been covered by greats like Johnny Cash and Neil Young & Crazy Horse. The cover fit well with the mountain setting and the crowd entranced by the roaming lead line. The set ended strong with “Down In The Valley”, again an appropriate tune for the setting, and a cover of David Bowie’s “Moonage Daydream” which seemed to hit the crowd just right. I don’t think anyone is ready to let go of that repertoire just yet, hopefully they never will. This definitely went down as my personal favorite Part & Parcel set, kudos to them for slaying it!
