Double dose of music coming your way – check out my pull from Kaleid at Your Mom’s House!

This show opens with the super catchy original tune “Funkle Rocky” which blends into a spacey jam before seguing into the Rick James tune “Give It To Me Baby”. The show was performed on Friday the 13th so the set list has plenty of fun covers. One of the highlights of the evening for me was their cover the String Cheese Incident’s “Desert Dawn” which featured an “X-Files” theme song jam, in-line with the Friday the 13th in October vibe. The set closed with a monster version of their tune “Miss March” which segued in and out of “Breakdown” which was a nod to the recently passed legend Tom Petty. Their adaptation of the Mozart classic “Rondo Alla Turca” was made very much their own featuring a synth laden funk breakdown jam which definitely was far from 18th century classical era. Kaleid‘s ability to carry a jam is evident throughout the show. Aside from their strong songwriting, the band is no stranger to improvisation. “Captain Good Boy” and “Adventure” both exhibit purposeful and patient playing. “Miss March”, “Funkle Rocky”, “Rondo All Turca” all got the treatment as well. A willingness to constantly challenge yourself and explore the music mixed with great songwriting is the key to any great jamband. Kaleid is forging their path with a solid foundation of both. Can’t wait to hear what comes next!

One Set: Funkle Rocky > Give It To Me Baby (Rick James) > Funkle Rocky, Rondo All Turca (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart) > Captain Good Boy > Triple Threat > Captain Good Boy, Adventure, Desert Dawn (String Cheese Incident)[1], Miss March > Breakdown (Tom Petty) > Miss March

Show Notes: Sqwerv opened the show followed by Kaleid. King Friday The 13th headlined the evening.
[1] “Desert Dawn” contained an “X-Files” theme song jam.

Taper Notes: DFC to the right of the soundboard, mics raised around 12′. There were issues with the lead guitar not coming through on either the soundboard or the PA. As a result, the lead guitar is very low in the recording. There is also a hiss from a fog machine that occurs intermittently throughout the recording.

Thanks to Kaleid and Your Mom’s House for being cool with taping/sharing shows. Go see live music! #spacetapes
