The Jauntee Denver-Run Round 1: Jauntgrass at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom!

The Jauntee is primarily an electric band but for Bluegrass Thursday the band performed Jauntgrass which is their take on bluegrass music. The result is a somewhat grassy and somewhat jazzy take on The Jauntee‘s sound. Even though the performance was acoustic, the band still found ways to improvise. “Done Gone Blues” had a fantastic jam which constantly shifted in tempo following the interplay between the guitar and keys. Great cover selection – the show opened with a fun rendition of Ween’s classic “Roses Are Free” .They also played the folk masterpiece by Simon and Garfunkel “Homeward Bound”. Not to mention their cover of “Lay Down Sally” offered up some additional improvisational moments. The set closed out with their original “Whiskey” which reminded of one of Sufjan Stevens compositions with it’s flowery main riff and quirky lyrics. The whole set showed off a side of the band I had never seen before and it was refreshing to see the versatility and willingness to take musical risks. Everything pays off in this set! Not to mention this is a soundboard/audience matrix so the quality is fantastic.

Show Notes: The Jauntee opened the show followed by Useful Jenkins. The Rumpke Mountain Boys headlined the evening. This was a Jauntgrass set which was performed acoustic.
