It’s your brother from another mother….and it’s #TaperThursday! Check out RAQ headlining the first night of their two-night-run at Be On Key Psychedelic Ripple!

When RAQ came to Be On Key earlier this year, they blew the roof off the place. Those two shows pretty much set the standard for all future shows at that place. So when I heard they were coming baq for round 2 – there was no way I was going to pass that up. Lucky for the crowd that night, RAQ still had a bunch to show us.

The show started off with the progfunk instrumental “Led Boots” then followed into what may have been the jam of the night in a 18 minute “Shirley Be A Drooler”. The tune started with a patient build before erupting into the catchy tongue-twisting hook. The jam then morphed into ambient spacey vibrations before revving itself back up and into the eventual peak. The song eventually segued into “I’m Bad…I’m Nationwide” which had its own type II excursion. The band felt loose and ready to play as every tune felt like it was getting the treatment. The following “Mamamoth” had a more laid-back nuanced jam that peaked several times before shifting into the fast paced outro. If I could use one word to describe these RAQ improvisational moments it would be patient. Their jam style is very much their own and their communication shows off their years of experience playing together.

The second set blasted-off similar to the first set with a huge jam in “Stratus” followed by one of my favorite RAQ tunes “Brother From Another Mother”. The set then got brown for all you Ween fans as the band then performed “Push Th’ Little Daises” which then segued into “City Funk”. The set ended strong with a big rendition of “Ventriloquist”. Incredible show to start the run and just another validation for me that RAQ is one of the best jambands in the scene.
