Twigeon Dwellers | 2019-05-02 | Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Morrison, CO [AUD]

I’m not crazy, you’re just sweating me each and every day, I got visions of Twigeon Dwellers colliding worlds together at Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre!

Longtime tour-mates Twiddle, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, and Kitchen Dwellers celebrated their taking over Red Rocks last Thursday with a collaborative set to close out the evening that featured all three bands intermingling and espousing on each other’s music as well as a few classic covers. They erupted out of the gate with a take on Twiddle’s psychedelic disco-funk tale of over-indulgence “Apples”, a tune that lends itself well to Pigeons’ proclivity for funk. The song featured all members of Pigeons and Twiddle as well as Torrin from Kitchen Dwellers. Next-up, the members of Pigeons (minus Jeremy) took a quick breather while the rest of the Kitchen Dwellers were invited up to perform the riveting “Visions Of Mohr”, an incredibly powerful tune off their debut album “Ghost In A Bottle”, which also featured Mihali on vocals in the studio version. The song is beautiful, inspiring and catchy as all hell. It also featured the most exploratory moment of the collaborative set, with an incredibly fluid jam clocking in at just over 11 minutes. The next batch of tunes kept the party alive. The rest of Pigeons were invited back up to perform a cover of The Proclaimers “I Wanna Be (500 Miles)” with Greg from Pigeons on vocals, changing up the lyrics to pay tribute to his many peers on-stage. Next was a take on the Pigeons Playing Ping Pong ode to funk, “F.U.”, which has one of the most anthemic choruses around, thus a fitting opportunity for all members to sing about what they want to do. They then covered The Talking Heads staple “Psycho Killer”, once again with Greg from Pigeons on vocals for added zaniness. Mihali and Greg then took center-stage for a duet acapella rendition of Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Sound Of Silence”. The performance was met with endless hoots and cheers from the crowd as the two frontmen navigated the classic through subdued harmonies. As they performed, the stage behind them was being setup for what would become the grand finale, a cover of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” complete with local 19-piece choir. The number featured Greg from Pigeons and Twiddle drummer Brook Jordan sharing vocal duties along with the choir. The epic Brian May solo was executed perfectly by Mihali, and the send-off was a novel moment for anyone in attendance. Head-banging to Bohemian Rhapsody at Red Rocks is a moment I won’t soon forget. Congrats to all the bands involved in this epic accomplishment.
