The Terrapin Family Band | 2018-05-05 | Red Rocks Amphitheater, Morrison, CO [AUD]

It’s been a while since there’s been a #SonicSunday – but this one was worth waiting for…check out Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band headlining Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre!

This epic set started-off shot-out-of-a-canon as the members of Leftover Salmon joined the band for smoking renditions of “Cumberland Blues” and “Viola Lee Blues”. The fiery picking helped elevate both songs and introduced the band as a true musical force. Any Dead-heads who weren’t familiar with Leftover Salmon before tonight were put on notice. After a heartfelt “Mountains Of The Moon” which evolved into a dark tension-release jam and provided some great Phil vocals, the band performed a very high-energy “Jack Straw” which showed-off some tastey licks from both Grahame and Ross James, both of which carried the bulk of improvisational leadership throughout the evening. The band then played an emotional “Jack O’ Roses” which segued beautifully into “Terrapin Station” and was met with exuberant delight. Next up was the biggest jam of the night, a stunning version of “Morning Dew” which once again put on display some blistering guitar work from both Grahame and Ross. The encore contained its own special moment as the band invited up Mihali Savoulidis of Twiddle to perform “Fire On The Mountain” and “The Music Never Stopped”. After having headlined Red Rocks the night before, Mihali felt right at home on the stage and laid down one of the best solos of the evening during “Fire On The Mountain”, earning a spot amongst some of the most legendary musicians to play with Phil at the historic venue. The show closed out with the Phil Lesh penned “Box Of Rain” and delivered one final shared moment with the grateful crowd. A truly fantastic evening.
